PRE-REQUIREMENT

Attendees should have the basic knowledge in genetics and molecular biology to understand the training content.

TRAINING PROGRAMME

Epigenetics is one of the hottest topics in molecular biology and the sciences of heredity (formerly known as "genetics"). One of the bearers of epigenetic information that has entered the lab routine is DNA methylation. The objective of this training is to make the participants autonomous in the use of DNA methylation mapping approaches that is based on bisulphite genome sequencing, a technique that allows for single-base and single DNA molecule methylation mapping. Participants will learn about advantages and limitations of the technique from sample preparation to EWAS (Epigenome-wide association study). Depending on their background and objectives, participants can choose between wet-bench or dry-bench.

- Introduction and round table: case studies / biological questions (provided by participants)
Hands-on training. Attendees are invited to choose between:
- Experimental session (wet bench):
. bisulfite treatment
. generation of whole-genome sequencing / reduced restriction bisulfite sequencing libraries
or
- Bioinformatics session (dry bench):
. methylation call
. identification of differentially methylated regions

2 hours of theoretical training per day (round table and lecture), rest of the time (18h) hands-on training (wet-bench or dry-bench)

EQUIPMENT

Standard molecular biology equipment (pipettes, centrifuges, dry-bath, PCR machine, agarose electrophoresis etc.), personal computer with access to mainframe server
